Sonoma is the birthplace of wine in California. It was here that Franciscan fathers first planted grapevines at the Sonoma Mission over 150 years ago. In the early 1900s, Italian families left their homeland and settled in Sonoma Valley because the gently rolling hills and mild mediterranean climate reminded them so much of Italy. Clinging to their native traditions, these immigrants soon planted vineyards and began making wine much like their ancestors had before them; thus a New World winemaking tradition was born.
In 1989, members of the Sebastiani family, Sonoma’s earliest Italian winemakers, created Viansa to share their love of good food, wine, and Italian heritage with visitors from around the world. Though the winery’s ownership has changed hands over the years, Viansa continues its dedication to Italian-inspired wines and foods, offering visitors a taste of Tuscany in the Sonoma Valley. Today, Viansa is proud to be the premier producer of Italian varietals in the United States!
